Shepherds Bay honours Les Whitcroft

Holdmark Property Group, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Ryde, officially opened the Les Whitcroft Reserve at Shepherds Bay in Meadowbank on Saturday 27 October 2018.

CEO of Holdmark, Mr Sarkis Nassif, members of the Rotary Club of Ryde and official guests, joined residents, families and community members to officially open the Les Whitcroft.

Les Whitcroft was a founder of an international packaging company.  Outside his business commitments he dedicated much of his time to helping the less fortunate. He and his wife established The Whitcroft Foundation which supported many charities.

He was a Rotarian for 43 years, a Past President and member of the Rotary Club of Ryde.  During his time, he was instrumental to many successful projects including:  PolioPlus, Pride of Workmanship, Stow It-Don’t Throw It, mentoring programs and other initiatives to improve and change young people’s lives for the better.  In 1989 he was honoured with an AM (Member of the Order of Australia).

President of Ryde Rotary, Mr Bob Kaye-Smith, said: “The opening of the Les Whitcroft Reserve marks a huge recognition for a Rotarian that made an extraordinary contribution to not only Rotary, but to business and the local community.

“As President I am excited to see the wonderful memory of Les Whitcroft be enshrined. As a Rotary Club we place a lot of importance on providing public open spaces for communities to enjoy.  Congratulations to everyone involved in the design and development of this new park and we thank Holdmark for making this possible.”
Spanning 3,000 square metres, the Les Whitcroft Reserve features spectacular public art, an innovative, adventurous water feature and a fun playground for the Shepherds Bay residents and broader community.

Mr Nassif said the new reserve was a major milestone for the Shepherds Bay community and would provide a unique and interactive playground for new families moving into Meadowbank.

“We are very proud to deliver such a vibrant reserve to the community at such an early stage of Shepherds Bay development and we expect the Les Whitcroft Reserve to become a firm favourite for current and future residents. It is fitting that it is named after such a remarkable Australian, a local of Ryde,” Mr Nassif said.

“Innovative parks like this are vital to the health and wellbeing of the community and Holdmark is committed to providing play spaces that allow kids’ imaginations to soar while providing an inclusive place for families to build new connections.”
The Les Whitcroft Reserve includes stunning public art, playground and interactive water feature. Additional features include picnic areas, recreational areas, a cafe and restaurants.

The park is located on the on the waterfront at Shepherds Bay, Rothsay Avenue, Meadowbank.
